Drone thermal inspections are coming soon to Premier Solar Service. Call or text to get on the list for your site.

What thermal imaging shows

A thermal camera sees temperature differences across modules. Cells, modules or strings running hotter or cooler than their neighbors can point to cracked cells, failed bypass diodes, offline strings, connector faults or heavy soiling.

The international standard for this work is IEC TS 62446-3, which covers outdoor infrared thermography of PV modules and plants, including the sun and weather conditions an inspection needs to be valid.

How we will run it

Inspections will follow IEC TS 62446-3 conditions, with irradiance, wind and temperature logged for each flight. Each finding gets a photo, a thermal image, a location and a likely cause, with a note to have a qualified technician confirm it.

Pair it with a cleaning: soiling can mask or mimic thermal patterns, so a clean array gives a clearer read.

Drone flights and FAA rules

Commercial drone flights in the U.S. require an FAA remote pilot certificate under Part 107. We are setting up the drone program now and will start booking flights once it is in place.

What a report will include

  • Thermal and visual image per finding
  • Row and module location
  • Likely cause, graded by severity
  • Site conditions at the time of the scan
